LOUISVILLE, KY. – Goodwill Kentucky has received a $50,000 donation from Walsh Construction through the Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District’s (MSD) Community Benefits Program. The generous contribution was recognized during a check presentation held at Goodwill’s West Louisville Opportunity Center on Tuesday.

These funds will directly support Goodwill Kentucky’s mission to help individuals across the Commonwealth find pathways out of poverty through career training, job placement, and essential support services. By investing in Goodwill’s work, Walsh Construction and MSD are helping to create lasting opportunities for Kentuckians to build stable, sustainable futures.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Walsh Construction and MSD for their generous support of our mission,” said Andrew Gillette, Director of Development at Goodwill Kentucky. “This donation will help us continue empowering Kentuckians to overcome barriers, gain valuable skills, and find meaningful employment. Partnerships like this make a real difference.”

Walsh Construction and Goodwill Kentucky, in partnership with the University of Kentucky, recently launched a Pre-Apprenticeship Program, designed to introduce participants to careers in the skilled trades through an eight-week, hands-on learning experience. The initiative is tied to the construction of the UK Cancer and Advanced Ambulatory Building.

“We are proud to join Goodwill Kentucky’s efforts to remove workforce barriers through their job-readiness training program, RISE,” said Kendra Simon, Walsh Group community relations manager. “This workforce development initiative empowers our neighbors as they pursue gainful employment and opens the door of opportunity for a brighter future that strengthens individuals, families, and our community at large.”

Each year, MSD invests millions in building and maintaining infrastructure for wastewater treatment, stormwater management, and flood protection. Its Community Benefits & Strategic Partnerships division is focused on generating social impacts that go beyond these core infrastructure projects.

“Through our Community Benefits Program, MSD is dedicated to demonstrating compassion and social responsibility by ensuring that the investments we make in infrastructure also invest in people and neighborhoods,” said Tony Parrott, Louisville MSD executive director. “Our partnership with Walsh Construction reflects that commitment—showing how progress at the Morris Forman Water Quality Treatment Center can extend far beyond construction, creating opportunities that uplift people across the communities we serve.”
