Fresh off a 10-year federal prison sentence for selling drugs, Franklin was determined to build a different future.

After his release, he connected with a friend, Candace, a senior store manager at Goodwill Kentucky, who referred him to the Lexington Opportunity Center. There, he discovered resources and support available to help him rebuild his life.

“I didn’t have anything when I came out of prison,” he said. “I could have gone back to selling drugs, but I wanted to change. I wanted to take advantage of the programs Goodwill has.”

After completing job-readiness training, Franklin was hired at his local Goodwill Kentucky store, where his career coach, Ashley, connected him with the Work and Learn program, which allows employees to work toward an industry-recognized credential while receiving full-time wages.

Franklin earned his Class A Certified Driver’s License (CDL) and today works as a driver for a Winchester-based company, earning $28 per hour.

“My experience with Goodwill provided me with opportunities to grow both personally and professionally,” he said. “With their help, I was able to gain confidence and prepare for my career. I am forever grateful for the support Goodwill provided.”
