After preparing to graduate from addiction treatment and transition into sober living in Louisville, Jayson connected with Goodwill Kentucky through the West Louisville Opportunity Center. New to the city and looking for a fresh start, he began attending classes daily and quickly found encouragement and guidance from the Opportunity Center team, Karen, Cody, and Dwon.
Karen connected Jayson to the RISE program, where instructors saw his leadership potential and encouraged him to apply for a position with Goodwill Kentucky. He was hired as a production clerk at the Hikes Point store and stood out for his work ethic, leadership, and dedication to personal growth.
Although his background was in technology and computer programming, Jayson embraced new opportunities while continuing his education and certifications. With support from Trochelle, his career coach, he earned his Peer Support Certification and grew into new roles.
After being promoted to team lead, Jayson was encouraged to apply for an open career coach position. Today, he serves on our Mission Integration team, helping others navigate challenges similar to those he once faced himself.
“They truly gave me a hand up—not a handout,” Jayson said. “I know the mission works because I am living proof of it.”
