Goodwill Industries of Kentucky held Opportunity Expos at its Bowling Green, Corbin, Elizabethtown and Lexington Opportunity Centers in November. Goodwill’s Opportunity Expos are designed for individuals who want to launch or relaunch their careers and feature meet-and-greets with community partners, food and more. The events were sponsored by Passport by Molina Healthcare.
Goodwill’s Opportunity Expos showcase the partnerships it has with community agencies throughout the commonwealth. They offer information and connections to services needed by Kentuckians who experience barriers to employment and self-sufficiency, including addictions, justice-involved backgrounds, education deficiencies, limited workforce histories, childcare challenges, transportation, homelessness and mental or physical disabilities.
As part of its Opportunity Expos in Bowling Green and Lexington, Goodwill hosted reentry simulations prior to the events to bring to light the challenges and barriers formerly incarcerated individuals face when reentering society. During the simulations, participants roleplayed individuals recently released from jail or prison who were attempting to reintegrate into society.
