Meet a member of our commercial services team, LC, who may or may not be known as “the greatest janitor in the world.”
“Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to work for Goodwill. The dream began while thrift shopping with my mom,” LC said. “After I got out of prison, my son tried taking me to other jobs, but there is no other job for me. I told him to take me to the Goodwill!”
LC worked briefly at our store in Middletown before transferring to our East Broadway Opportunity Center. He takes great pride in keeping the Center tidy and orderly.
“I love cleaning up for Goodwill,” LC said. “I like keeping the place beautiful. I want it to be a space where everyone can come and enjoy themselves and feel pride here – especially the homeless. We get to be their rag, their mop, their broom. We get to be everything to people.”
LC prides himself on his work ethic and his forward-thinking nature.
“My supervisor had a talk with me, because I wasn’t taking any breaks,” he explained. “I am always looking ahead. For example, the place needs to be extra clean on Wednesdays, because that’s Partner Day. I call myself a mini boss, because I can see the big picture better than most. I am the janitor that takes responsibility and makes sure everyone else is taken care of. I love doing that for people. Goodwill’s vision of serving others has become my personal vision.”
