On June 1, 2013, Lakeisha was abusing drugs inside the bathroom of her home in Bowling Green when she had a vision that led to a turning point in her life.

“My daughter was going to find me overdosed in the bathroom,” she said. “When I felt that, I immediately came out of the bathroom, I got to my knees and prayed to God. I was sweating and shaking. I really felt like I was about to go. I asked God, ‘If you let me wake up and see another day, and let me see my kids, you’ll never have to worry about me looking back.’”

Since that day, Lakeisha has remained sober, but her past proved to be a barrier to her future. While she was abusing, she went “back and forth to jail,” she said, which made finding reliable employment difficult. When she moved on from her recovery home in 2016, she applied to Goodwill Industries of Kentucky. She was hired at our Campbellsville Road store, where she still is today.

“I’m so appreciative of my job at Goodwill,” she said. “Coming out of addiction, they took a chance on me. I feel like I’m here for a reason.”

Finding a job allowed Lakeisha to focus on her career goals and aspirations, which included owning her own eyelash business. After years of hard work, she launched Keisha Unique Eyes, an eyelash vending machine, in September 2024! She also operates her own nonprofit, Feeding God’s People, which helps nourish unhoused individuals.

“I’m trying to do the right thing one day at a time,” she said. “Coming from addiction to where I am today, I am truly blessed.”

Now that she’s turned her life around, Lakeisha hopes her story can encourage others to do the same.

“People look at you and don’t realize what you’ve been through,” she said. “I’ve been through so much, and I’m still standing. And I’m going to keep going because I have bigger dreams. I hope and pray my story helps others.”
