LOUISVILLE, KY. – Yesterday, Goodwill Kentucky celebrated the grand opening of its new La Grange Retail Store and Donation Center, located at 2017 KY-53 in La Grange. The store, which has already welcomed thousands of shoppers since its July soft opening, features a 7,100-square-foot sales floor and a refreshed in-store design.
“This store creates two things: jobs that give people a place to start their journey, and funding for resources to address barriers that hold people back”, Goodwill Kentucky President and CEO Amy Luttrell said. “Goodwill has 68 stores in 45 Kentucky communities, and we operate 12 Opportunity Centers, which are resource centers to help people find what they need so that they can get on their feet and get ahead.”
The event included remarks from La Grange Mayor John Black and Oldham County Chamber President David Bizianes, who praised Goodwill for establishing a strong presence in the growing La Grange community. A personal testimony from a Goodwill Kentucky employee was also given about the transformative power of second chances.
Mirroring the scope of its statewide operations, 80% of the store’s employees are graduates of Goodwill programs—initiatives that help Kentuckians facing barriers such as addiction, justice involvement, limited education or work history, transportation challenges, homelessness, and mental or physical disabilities.
Each year, Goodwill Kentucky supports more than 20,000 individuals on their path to meaningful employment. To sustain this mission, the organization encourages the community to shop, donate, and support the La Grange store, where approximately 90 cents of every dollar goes directly toward programs that help Kentuckians find pathways out of poverty.
