Because of Dillon’s justice-involved background, he couldn’t find reliable employment that would allow him to rebuild his life. After working at Long John Silver’s for years, Dillon said, he “was tired of slaving over hot grease and wanted more” for himself.
He began his recovery journey at the Men’s Healing Place where he completed classes that taught essential life skills. He then learned about the programs and services available at our South Louisville Opportunity Center. He continued sharpening his skills by completing our two-week job-readiness course and our digital literacy programs.
In August 2023, Dillon earned a job at our 2nd Chance Outlet in Louisville as a Material Handler. While employed, he got his forklift certification, a brand-new smile through our dental program, purchased a vehicle, and even earned his MIG Welding certification – all with help from his Career Coach Dane’Sha.
Dillon is now earning $20 per hour with benefits as a welder. He said he has the South Louisville Opportunity Center, his Senior Store Manager Lesley, and God to thank for his success.
“Dillon has shown commitment and is a passionate employee,” Dane’Sha said. “We are proud of his achievements, and he will continue to achieve amazing things in his life.”
