An abusive relationship led Christina down a dark path of addiction and incarceration. After four years in prison, she tried to convince her son he was better off without her. She said that was her rock bottom.

She checked herself into rehab and “turned to God.” Not long after, doors began to open for her, which included an opportunity at our Shelbyville store. She was hired one year ago today, and now, she serves as an Assistant Manager II.

“This company has loved me back to life,” she said. “It gave me the strength to do things I’ve never thought I was even worthy of doing again.”

While in rehab, Christina’s car was repossessed, which led her to apply for our Cars to Work Program. Through the program, she earned a vehicle and now has reliable transportation.

With Goodwill’s help, Christina has also been reunited with her youngest son, whom she was separated from for nine years. Goodwill helped her get her first apartment for them to live in.

Most recently, Christina graduated from our management training program and she said she’s ready to become a Store Manager.

“I am forever grateful for this company and everyone I have come in contact with,” she said. “I have the biggest and best support system I have needed for so long!”
