Eleven years ago, Aneica was sentenced to eight years in an Indiana prison for drug charges. When she was released, she transferred her parole to her hometown of Hazard, Kentucky.
As a 12-time convicted felon, Aneica had a hard time finding someone to hire her – until she found her second chance at Goodwill, an opportunity she has taken full advantage of.
“Goodwill is the only person that would hire me,” she said. “I started as a full-time hanger three years ago. Within a year, I became a store manager. On my three-year mark, I was promoted to senior store manager.”
Since starting at Goodwill, Aneica has also completed her probation, paid off the car she received through Goodwill, gotten a new smile through Goodwill’s benefits, and earned her peer support certification, which gives her the chance to help people like how she was helped.
“I love being able to give people second chances,” she said. “I know what it’s like to have my life changed by Goodwill.”
Less than four years after being released from an eight-year prison sentence, Aneica is now fully independent. She said she has her Goodwill support system to thank, which includes her career coach, Robby.
“If it wasn’t for Goodwill, I wouldn’t be where I am now,” she said. “I owe it all to them. I owe Goodwill my life.”
