Despite facing substance use disorder, justice involvement, and unemployment, Tommy was determined to build a better future. Through Goodwill Kentucky’s Gateway from Recovery to Work program, he found the support, resources, and career guidance he needed to turn that determination into action.
A proud graduate of Goodwill Kentucky’s flagship job-readiness training, RISE, Tommy worked alongside his career coach, Jessica, at the Morehead Opportunity Center to pursue his goal of earning a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and finding employment in transportation.
With personalized coaching and a clear path forward, he completed training at Maysville Community & Technical College and earned his CDL earlier this year. Today, Tommy is putting his hard work into action with full-time employment as an over-the-road (OTR) truck driver for Western Express.
By taking full advantage of the coaching, training, and resources available to him, Tommy turned opportunity into a meaningful career, demonstrating how Goodwill Kentucky helps individuals overcome barriers, achieve their goals, and build a foundation for lasting employment and independence.
