Cynthia first connected with the Elizabethtown Goodwill Opportunity Center in April 2024, where she began working with Career Coach Tadd Ligon. At the time, she was experiencing homelessness and unemployment and was struggling to meet her basic needs.
Together, Cynthia and Tadd worked to overcome the barriers standing in her way. Tadd helped her secure employment with a Goodwill employer partner and connected Cynthia with a local housing partner, helping her move into her own apartment.
After securing stable housing and employment, Cynthia’s circumstances improved. However, when she lost her job due to large-scale layoffs, she returned to the Opportunity Center and reconnected with Tadd. They updated her resume and cover letter, and Cynthia began participating in career readiness and professional development classes to prepare for her next opportunity.
Determined to strengthen her skills, Cynthia enrolled in Goodwill’s MSSC Certified Logistics Associate program at the West Louisville Opportunity Center. She commuted from Elizabethtown to Louisville each day to complete the training, earning her certification through hard work and perseverance. Soon after graduating, she interviewed with multiple employers and accepted a position with Grainger, where she now earns more than $23 per hour.
Today, Cynthia is thriving in a career she enjoys, living independently, and continuing to build a brighter future. Reflecting on her journey, she shared, “I cannot thank Tadd, Elisabeth, Rocio, and Goodwill enough. You are all amazing. Thank you.”
