When Lawrence first connected with Goodwill Kentucky’s Lexington Opportunity Center in April 2025, he was looking for a job and a fresh start.
With the support of the Opportunity Center team, Lawrence began his journey with Goodwill Kentucky by completing the RISE program and earning a Work Ready certification. He began working at the New Circle store in July 2025. While working there, Lawrence also earned both his forklift certification and OSHA-10 general industry certification, strengthening his skills and preparing for a career.
With additional support from his career coach, Taylor, Lawrence joined the first Construction/Skilled Trades Pathway cohort at the Lexington Opportunity Center, provided through the Goodwill Kentucky strategic partnership team and local employers.
He was later selected to take part in a pre-apprenticeship program, made possible by a partnership with Walsh Construction and the University of Kentucky, which provided him with an eight-week, hands-on learning experience through subcontractor Riverside Electrical Contractor, Inc. In June, he graduated from the program, and today, he works full-time at DBE Electrical Services.
Along the way, Lawrence achieved milestones that extended beyond the workplace. He secured his own apartment, purchased a vehicle, and built a foundation for long-term stability.
Lawrence’s success is one example of the impact of Goodwill Kentucky’s workforce partnerships. Together, Goodwill Kentucky, Walsh Construction, the University of Kentucky, and local employer partners are helping create opportunities for individuals like Lawrence, providing the skills to succeed in high-demand careers, and the support needed to build brighter futures.
